So I just saw this a bit ago, and I immediately cried tears of joy. Apparently The Camelot Herald has a poll going on about bringing back Old Frontiers for Dark Age of Camelot. Here it is:

To All Current, Former and Future players:

Would you be interested in playing on a new Dark Age of Camelot server that does the following?

Brings back the Old Frontiers territory

Brings back the old Keeps, Relics, and related systems

Does not include the following systems or components:

Master levels

Champion levels

Artifacts

Minotaur Relics

Champion weapons

Mythirians

Focuses on the "classic" zone territories that existed prior to the expansion packs

Focuses mainly on the class types that existed prior to the expansion packs

No buffbots, but rather a universally available buffing option

Answers:
I am a current subscriber and would play on this new server type.
I am a former subscriber and would come back to play on this new server type.
I am a current subscriber and enjoy where I play. I don't need a new server type.
I have not played Dark Age of Camelot, but I may check it out for this new server type.
Maybe.
No thanks.

If you have friends who might be interested in this type of server rule set, have them stop by and answer the poll!

I for one voted yes I’d return to this type of server. And so far it seems from the Camelot VN Boards (DAoC’s main community boards) that the majority of DAoC players feel the same way. With good reason, DAoC was quite possibly the best type of PvP / RvR mmorg ever created. Until the release of ToA and NF, it was the ultimate encounter of skill based PvP.

There are some naysayers out there however and understandably so. Some say that further splitting up the already small population of the DAoC community would just further destroy the game to a point where it is completely dead. Right now, the servers have on at prime time a max of 2000 people across all servers. Having some of those people go to a new server with the OF rule set will pretty much kill their original servers. I for one think quite the opposite. While it may kill the current server the player is on, the new server will be populated to a point of complete saturation again. I upon hearing just the simple thought that Mythic was actually thinking about bringing back OF, 4 of my close friends said they would go back to playing. If I know 4 people, there are others that know that many as well. I really think there could be a huge population boost to the servers.

Still this is all speculation only. A lot of questions are being raised as to just how Mythic would handle this. Would there be completely new servers? Would the SI expansion be included? Most people don’t want to level from scratch, so would we be given a level 50 at RR1? Possibly with their epic class gear? Would the old RA (Ream Ability) system be put back in place? Would only the pre SI / ToA classes be in? With no buffbots, how would the buffing system be handled now?

Hopefully Mythic sees that the response is a positive one, and does things the right way in order to establish DAoC as a viable alternative to WoW. I for one am really hoping for this to come to fruition. Hopefully it’s not to little to late.
