Lets face it, if you play games for more than just a way to kill an hour before you have to leave for your grandma's birthday celebration, you have an ego. Whether it be over something like Tetris Online, or WoW, it's there, and my god will it not ever go away.
Whether people like to admit it or not, everyone has an ego about something. The people who raid 6 nights a week take pride in their PvE accomplishments, and you notice that as soon as you insult their PvP abilities, their first remark is "when you have cleared more instances than me, then you can talk." Now, for the hardcore PvP'er, this insult is anything but demeaning, but to the PvE'er, it's the best thing he could come up with. (and vice versa)
However, where is the line when it comes to having an ego? I mean, yeah sure, we would all love to have the top .1% of players walk around telling people "no really, keep at it, you guys are pretty good, just hang in there and keep trying" after they destroy them in an arena, but what fun is that for the winning team? Part of the reason people still do arenas after they have full arena gear is for bragging rights, and same goes for PvE. I constantly see players make comments like "wow you don't have to be such an ******* about it." Well, you're right, I don't. However, I've got nothing left to do right now, so I'm going to, because im bored. My theory is, if your the best, you can have as big an ego as you want. Sure it might be offensive to others, and that's where you have to decide if you want to make more friends than enemies, or if you are content with your small core group of friends and don't need anyone else.
At the same time, if you DO have an ego, go about it in a smart way. Running around telling every single person their bad can get pretty annoying after a while, and you have to realize that by doing this your basically severing all ties with the people around you. However, for the people like me who play this game for only a few people, and nobody else really matters, have a field day with the scrubs on your server.
As for insults, it would be smart to keep them to in-game related topics. Running around with a 2300 rating claiming your the coolest kid at school can only last so long before people honestly don't give a fck. And turning around and saying **** about someone else's real life just makes you look like an even bigger loser, because your trying to bring down someone's performance in-game to their RL status; which to me is about as low as you can get. Unless you literally cannot strafe in-game because your father cut off 4 of your 5 fingers when he caught your jerking off to porn on his laptop at 2 in the morning, then I see no reason why anyone should make any sort of RL reference, because it never has anything to do with their performance in-game. (Unless of course you are Geecee and blame losses on stomach ache's. Then I would like doctors bills faxed to my house for verification)
Lastly, if you know your bad, please just accept it. Standing in front of org saying "I know i'm going to lose" before every duel is pretty childish, and we all know it's just a coverup so when you do lose, you can't get told your bad because....well, you just admitted it. Yet on the flipside, if you win, then you get to run around spamming org that you just beat someone in better gear, even though your "bad." Honestly grow a pair and play to win, not play to "LOL I HOPE I DON"T GET MADE FUN OF."
For all you who run around claiming you don't have an ego, and flaunt your video's on warcraftmovies.com by putting in the description "I know im an average player, I just made this movie for fun!" to avoid getting critique'd and getting a lower rating because you really are in fact bad; you make me sick. I honestly think the most overrated player in WoW for the past few months has been Evertras, probably one of the most average/worst mages I've ever seen make a video, and yet his ratings on wm.com are higher than some of the best mages in the world. Why? Because apparently "manning up" to the fact that you suck d!ck, means your a better player.
Congrats all you terrible players out there. Im glad you have been able to officially move up in the ranks, by admitted your awful at this game.
