Saw this profile on a Chinese forum and there were a lot of debates on whether this 2300+ mutilate rogue/druid team in BG9 is legit.  The rogue in question is running the classic 41/20 mutilate spec, with only two points in improved poisons.   To make it even more special, the druid is 11/11/39.  Both players are using full PVP gear.  How?  I asked Serennia-sama and even he can't figure it out.

Selective queing alone is not enough to hit 2300.  BG9 is not what it used to be, but it is still the most active battlegroup in the U.S.  With the sheer volume of teams you can dodge maybe 1-2 comps, but you still have to dominate everyone else.  I can't rule them out when Boozt inherited ZOM's torch and won vengeful gladiator with shadow priest rogue in the strongest European BG.  The new mutilate hero also took his RLD to 1st spot in his BG.  Boozt commented on my previous article:

Ive played RLD this season at rank 1 as mutilate on Cyclone EU. The better teams can abuse your bad mobility and you are very vulnerable to switches (vs us a warrior team can go on whatever target he wants, which makes switches hard for even a druid to handle). Although, if you let the rogue call the shots and build the play style around him its a sick spec to use and imo more powerful than shadowstep in specific setups. - Boozt

I tried 54/0/7 mutilate on a full S3 rogue with a full S3 moonkin druid, and I am really not feeling it even in 1900 range fighting equal gear opponents.  My sustained damage is honestly, worse than shadowstep.  At equal AP/crit mutilate has 25% higher damage per energy than hemo, but hemo has 250 more attack power, 2% more crit and of course, the hemo debuff for significantly better white damage.

I am not convinced a mutilate rogue can out tank a shadowstep rogue.  With cloak of shadows and abolish poison, coupled with high dodge + parry and occasional cyclones, it is not easy to stack 5 wound up at all even with full poison talents.  Shadowstep rogue can get guaranteed kidney shots while mongoose+ghostly strike+32% dodge+5% parry makes it very hard to land kidney shots as mutilate.  Serennia-sama said he can count the enemy rogue's combo points and turn around just in time to avoid the shadowstep -> kidney shot, I think it is like saying Neilyo can consistently vanish immune death coils in slow motion.

Perhaps my perspective will be different if I have PVE gear.  In general, it is just feels like I have to work so much harder for my wins.  Warrior gets a hamstring on me, he immediately intercepts my druid while I have to chase him in slow motion.  Same with chasing shadowstep rogues who swap to my druid every 30 seconds.  And the timing of improved kidney shot -> CB mutilate to make sure it actually kills someone.  It has a very high learning curve and requires far more coordination with your teammate.

Talent Consolidation Needed In WOTLK

The rogue talent tree is nowhere near complete, and I strongly feel we need further consolidation in talents.  Ambush/backstab alone takes 23 talent points.  Opportunity, puncturing wounds, lethality (hemo is not nearly as dependent on lethality), improved ambush, and slaughter from shadows, that is a lot of talent points to make our signature specials usable in PVP.

Lethality - Should be 3 points for 30% to be on par with warrior/hunter versions

Master of Deception - Should be 3 points for 3 stealth levels

Camouflage - Should be 3 points for 5/10/15% stealth speed and -1/-2/-3 seconds to stealth cooldown and moved to tier 1.

Initiative - Should be moved to tier 2 where camouflage is right now

Set-up - Should be moved to tier 3 where initiative is right now

Find Weakness - Should be three talent points, this is actually a very weak DPS talent given its position.  Yellow damage is not everything.

Other classes are getting huge improvements in talent trees.  Warlock soulink at 11 instead of 31?  I am still waiting for our turn before putting serious hours into beta again.  The thing is a ghost town right now.

Mutilate rogue is a nightmare in a mirror imo (against SHS), we played them and were about even with them.

A guildy of mine linked me this post and I really couldn't resist.

We're legit, and we don't queue dodge.

(The record was actually 6/2. I d/c'd one game and lost the log of it).

And my main reason for posting, this little gem occurred a short time ago when Neilyo had to miss a tournament and Serennia whispered me looking for a replacement. It was later confirmed that Neilyo actually was not able to play that night, leading me to believe it was legit. I'm surprised Serennia didn't mention it to you.

Just want to clarify that we don't dodge, we fight most of the top teams consistently and we love competition.

I have all of our arena matches well documented, and I don't mind answering any questions.
