The future of LOTRO?
First post here, wish it could be more positive. I hear alot of talk about the upcoming AoC and Warhammer online. I read forums regularly - not just for this game - and it seems that alot of players from other MMORPG's will be making the switch to one of these. I love playing LOTRO and so am worried about what sort of future it has. I've seen beta gameplay videos of these games and they don't seem to appeal to me. I'll be sure to check them out anyway, but will most likely stay with LOTRO. But i've never known two MMOs so widely anticipated, and so i'm wondering what sort of a playerbase LOTRO will have left when these games come out? I understand that we don't have a large playerbase as it is compared to other games. It can sometimes be hard to find a fellowship for groups as it is - but how much harder will it be after these launches? I'm loving playing PVMP more than PvE for now, and i hear that these two upcoming games will have massive emphasis on PvP. So what will happen do you think? Will the Ettens be deserted? I'm pretty sure you guys can't predict the future, but you may have seen / heard alot of talk on these boards that give you a fair idea of how many will be off. I just have two general questions really: How many of you are switching / staying? And how badly do you think LOTRO may be hit when these games go live, especially PVMP? Thanks for reading.

First, I would like to express my deepest condolences - I was sure LOTRO died some time ago already. The fact people are still being agonized by playing it saddens my heart and I hope the psychological damage would not be critical and I wish them soon return to our society.

Saying that, AoC, Warhammer and WotlK come this year so I would start digging the grave for poor Lotro.

Lotro sucks entirely, out of the three big hits coming in this year I'm sure it will probably kill it off altogether. The game already has a pathetically low player base, I wouldn't expect those people to stick around.

There will probably still be at least one server full of folks like yourself, but it will be a bleak and dreary place.

SWG, Vanguard, LOTR are all pretty much in the same boat. I don't think AoC will totally "kill" all 3 and force the servers to get shut down, but I think a combined force of AoC, WAR, and WotLK might. There could be the stubborn people who refuse to play a new game and stick to the old, but I think you'll most definitely see a shrink in the games population.

Anyway, I think I'm going to buy AoC sometime, I'll try to log on SWG when there is PVP, but for the most part I think I'll be on AoC.
