Overwatch Stadium Mode Discontinued After Just 15 Months
Blizzard has announced it is ending active development on Overwatch 2's Stadium mode, the MOBA-inspired third-person offshoot that launched roughly 15 months ago as one of the game's most ambitious new additions. No new heroes or maps will be added to the mode going forward, effectively putting it on life support. The decision comes after player counts dwindled to a small fraction of the overall Overwatch player base, with reports indicating only a tiny percentage of players were still queuing for Stadium at any given time. When Stadium debuted, Blizzard billed it as a "third pillar" of the Overwatch experience, sitting alongside the standard Quick Play and Competitive offerings. The mode shifted the game's perspective from first-person to third-person and layered in MOBA-style progression mechanics, giving it a distinctly different feel from traditional Overwatch. Despite the novelty and the initial excitement around launch, the mode failed to retain a meaningful audience long-term, prompting Blizzard to redirect development resources away from it entirely.
