Heart Machine Lays Off Nearly Everyone After Publisher Pulls Funding for Unannounced Game
Heart Machine, the indie studio best known for Hyper Light Drifter and more recently Possessors, is fighting for its survival after a publisher withdrew funding for an unannounced project, forcing the studio to lay off nearly its entire staff. Studio founder Alx Preston broke the news publicly, stating plainly that he is "not sure yet how or if Heart Machine survives" following the collapse of the publishing deal. Preston acknowledged that "navigating an increasingly challenging industry has been extremely difficult," a sentiment that echoes broader struggles felt across the games industry in recent years.
