Ghost Recon Turns 25: New Game Confirmed, Wildlands Gets Major Free Update

Ubisoft celebrated the Ghost Recon franchise's 25th anniversary with a dedicated livestream on August 6, 2026, and the company came with plenty to show. The centerpiece of the presentation was a substantial free update for Ghost Recon Wildlands, adding a brand-new story mission called "Last Rites," next-gen performance upgrades bringing the game to 4K/60fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, hundreds of previously locked in-game items now available for free, and the return of Predator crossover content that had been removed back in 2020. PC Gamer describes the new campaign content as a return to a "darker, more oppressive Bolivia," while PCGamesN notes the game has never looked or played better.

Beyond the Wildlands news, Ubisoft officially confirmed that a brand-new Ghost Recon game is in development. Details were sparse during the stream, but the company also announced the Ghost Recon Insider Program, inviting players to sign up and help with closed tests on the unannounced title. "Now we're ready to put it to the test," Ubisoft said, signaling that development is far enough along to begin gathering community feedback. Rounding out the anniversary celebration, Ubisoft is giving away Ghost Recon: Future Soldier on PC for free through Ubisoft Connect until August 13, making it a strong week for fans of the long-running tactical shooter series.
