Helldivers 2 Joins PS Plus Extra/Premium as Massive Devoid of Liberty Update Goes Live

It is a big day for Helldivers 2 fans and newcomers alike. Sony confirmed on August 12, 2026 that the 2024 breakout co-op shooter has been added to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium as part of the August 2026 Game Catalog, giving subscribers on both tiers instant access to one of the most celebrated multiplayer games of recent years. The addition came somewhat out of nowhere, with little prior fanfare from Sony, but the timing could not have been better engineered to pull in a fresh wave of recruits to Super Earth's cause.

Launching alongside the PS Plus debut is Helldivers 2's massive version 7.0 update, titled Devoid of Liberty. The update brings sweeping changes to the game's SEAF (Super Earth Armed Forces) NPC soldiers, who now interact with players in new ways, including the ability to hug you back when prompted. On top of the NPC revamp, the update introduces new Illuminate enemies and sets the stage for an assault on the Void, a mysterious hellmouth that has been consuming a portion of Illuminate territory. The combination of a major content drop and a simultaneous subscription debut makes this one of the more strategically timed releases in the game's history, giving brand-new players a feature-rich version of the game to jump into from day one.
