HoMM3 Remake Announced as Ubisoft Bungles Classic's Steam Launch

It was quite a day for Heroes of Might and Magic fans. Ubisoft managed to release Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete Edition on Steam without actually including the game files, leaving players who purchased the classic turn-based strategy title staring at an empty install. The blunder was swiftly patched, but not before the internet had a field day with what many are calling one of the more embarrassing digital storefronts mishaps in recent memory. The good news is that the Complete Edition is now functional and available for purchase on Steam.

Buried beneath the chaos of the botched launch, however, was a genuinely exciting announcement: a full remake of Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is in development and currently targeting a 2027 release. Ubisoft is backing Unfrozen's work on the project, with Hooded Horse also involved in publishing duties. Early hands-on impressions from outlets like PC Gamer and Rock Paper Shotgun suggest the remake is a faithful recreation of the beloved 1999 original, complete with its signature hex-based combat and sprawling fantasy campaign maps. Rock Paper Shotgun's reviewer admitted to not being a personal fan of the original, but still acknowledged that the team has done a commendable job honoring the source material. The remake joins another HoMM title also in the pipeline, meaning fans are on track to receive two Heroes of Might and Magic games within the same year.
