Magic: The Gathering's Next Marvel Set Is Darkhold Destiny, Coming in 2027

Oct 10, 20264 sources0 comments

Wizards of the Coast used New York Comic Con 2026 as the stage to unveil Marvel Darkhold Destiny, the first Universes Beyond expansion set for Magic: The Gathering in 2027. The announcement marks the third crossover between MTG and Marvel, following previous collaborations centered on Spider-Man and the broader Marvel Super Heroes set from the prior year. This time, however, the partnership is venturing into entirely new narrative territory.

Unlike its predecessors, Darkhold Destiny is described as the first Magic set to feature an original Marvel story rather than adapting existing comics lore. The set leans heavily into the supernatural side of the Marvel universe, with a wild premise that involves team-ups with what is being called a "pantheon of gods." The set is slated for an April 2027 release, giving players and collectors plenty to look forward to heading into next year. Earlier in 2026, Wizards had already revealed three of its six planned sets for 2027 at MagicCon Las Vegas, and Darkhold Destiny now fills in one of the remaining slots as a Universes Beyond entry.
