Insomniac Games has rolled out a hotfix for its PS5 exclusive Marvel's Wolverine that tones down one of the game's most polarizing features: the scent trail mechanic. Used to visualize Logan's heightened sense of smell, the trails quickly earned the unflattering nickname "fart gas" or "fart cloud" among players and critics alike, who found the visual effect far too garish and immersion-breaking. The update makes the trails "less intense," reducing how blatant and obtrusive they appear during gameplay.

Beyond simply dialing back the effect's intensity, Insomniac also adjusted audio sense indicators in the same patch. Perhaps more notably, the studio confirmed it is actively exploring "toggleable options" that would allow players to turn the scent trail visuals off entirely, a concession that signals the developer is taking community feedback seriously. The controversy surrounding the feature had already been simmering even before the game launched, making it one of the more talked-about design choices heading into release.
