Overwatch Revamps Its Battle Pass System and Brings Back Old Passes for Good

Blizzard is rolling out one of the biggest shake-ups to Overwatch 2's monetization yet, introducing a sweeping battle pass overhaul alongside the arrival of Season 4. The new system introduces a multi-track structure that gives players far more agency over what they unlock, including the ability to swap out skins they do not want for other rewards. A new feature called "Tier Hack" is central to the revamp, letting players target and unlock specific old skins rather than being forced through a rigid, linear reward path. The changes make the overall system more complex, but early impressions suggest the added flexibility is a meaningful improvement for players who have long felt locked out of content they actually wanted.

Perhaps the most welcome news for long-time fans is that old battle passes are finally making a permanent return. Starting next month, previously retired passes will be available on an ongoing basis, directly addressing years of criticism around the fear-of-missing-out pressure that has defined live-service battle pass models. There is a catch, however: not every reward from those old passes will be included when they come back, meaning some items will remain exclusive to players who purchased them during their original run. Even so, the move represents a notable softening of Blizzard's historically strict stance on time-limited content.
