PS5 Linux Mod Abandoned After AI "Slop Kiddies" Drama and Sony Exploit Disclosure

A highly anticipated open-source Linux mod for newer PS5 consoles may never see the light of day after its lead developer, Andy Nguyen, announced he is walking away from the project. Nguyen, a well-known figure in the PlayStation hacking scene, cited frustration with a wave of AI-assisted contributors he dismissively labeled "slop kiddies," describing them as "just a bunch of noobs using LLMs and writing hacks they don't even understand." The drama surrounding the project has apparently pushed Nguyen to his breaking point, putting the future of the mod in serious jeopardy.

The situation is further complicated by additional controversy involving a PS5 exploit and its disclosure to Sony, as well as concerns about the timing relative to GTA 6's release. Nguyen reportedly urged those involved to hold off, saying "I asked them to at least wait for GTA 6 to come out," suggesting the exploit's exposure could have broader implications for the modding and hacking community around that highly anticipated launch.
