RuneFest 2026: RuneScape 4 Revealed, Reignited Launches, and an Animated Series

Jagex made RuneFest 2026 one of the biggest events in the franchise's history, dropping a wave of announcements that signal a bold new era for RuneScape. The headline reveal was RuneScape 4, a full MMO sequel built in Unreal Engine that Jagex is calling its "fourth pillar." Interestingly, the project reportedly began life as an expansion to the survival game Dragonwilds before growing into a standalone MMO in its own right. Jagex was clear that RS4 is a long way off, but its existence alone sent shockwaves through the community.

Before RS4 arrives, the existing RuneScape MMORPG is getting its own major reset moment in the form of RuneScape Reignited, described by Jagex as a "new beginning" and the game's answer to its own "Classic moment." Old School RuneScape was not left out either, with a packed new roadmap that includes Hardcore Worlds, a skilling dungeon, the long-awaited opening of Menaphos, and what the studio is calling its hardest raid ever. Rounding out the announcements, Jagex revealed a RuneScape animated series developed in partnership with popular content creator MoistCr1TiKaL and production company Lyrical Media, bringing the Gielinor universe to a whole new audience.
