Subnautica 2 Update 1.2 Adds Proximity Chat, Revives, and a $100K Charity Donation

Subnautica 2's early access journey just hit a significant milestone with the launch of Update 1.2, dubbed the "Buddy System" patch. The update brings a wave of co-op improvements, including proximity-based voice chat, a revive system, and player trading, all designed to make exploring the deep ocean with friends feel considerably more immersive and connected. Developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment has clearly been listening to its community, delivering quality-of-life features that address some of the most-requested co-op pain points since the game launched in early access.

Alongside the gameplay additions, Unknown Worlds announced a $100,000 donation to The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization dedicated to ridding the world's oceans of plastic pollution. The gesture fits neatly with the game's oceanic themes and signals the studio's commitment to real-world environmental causes. As the "Buddy System" update rolls out, the developers have also teased that a new region and new story content are still in the pipeline, giving early access players plenty to look forward to beyond the current patch.
