Capcom Wants a Resident Evil Every Year, and Remakes Are the Key

Capcom has made its ambitions for the Resident Evil franchise crystal clear: the publisher wants to ship at least one entry in the series every single year, and it sees remakes as the engine that makes that cadence possible. RE9 producer Masachika Kawata has been speaking publicly about the strategy, emphasizing that remakes are not stopgaps or filler content between numbered mainline titles. According to Kawata, they are every bit as important to the franchise's health and identity as original entries.
